June 2019 Newsletter

The fall is going to be an exciting time at WRTD.  We will be implementing our schedule and route change proposal that was recently reviewed by the general public.  We will also be running a new fixed route - Hunting Lodge - which will be funded by the University of Connecticut.  But for now we are enjoying the summer and preparing for the future!

New collaboration with UConn - Hunting Lodge Route 675

UConn has entered into an agreement with WRTD to provide public transit bus service to stops along Hunting Lodge Road and Birch Road, North Eagleville Road and within Downtown Storrs.  This service will run during the UConn fall and spring semesters and will be called the Hunting Lodge Route (675).  Service will start on Monday, August 26th.

Schedule and Route Change Proposal

On May 23rd WRTD closed the public comment period for the Schedule and Route Proposal.  We heard some great feedback, considered all the comments and made a few minor changes before submitting the proposal to the Connecticut Department of Transportation for approval.  We now have approval of the changes and look forward to implementing the schedule and route changes on Monday, August 19th.

We will be sharing more information over the coming weeks - posters, new brochures and maps, and lots of outreach!  Stay tuned!

Escaping the area for a summer adventure!

Did you know there is more than one bus service into our area?

Want to get to Hartford and places west?
Try the 913 CT Transit service from Storrs or the 918 CT Transit/ Peter Pan service from Willimantic and Coventry.  From Hartford's Union Station you can transfer onto other buses and trains.

Want to head south?
Use WRTD's Willimantic-Norwich (Route 32) bus and then transfer onto a SEAT bus.

Want to head east?
Try Peter Pan from Storrs or use WRTD's Willimantic-Danielson bus and then transfer onto a NECTD bus.

Wondering how the schedules line up?
Google Transit can be useful to see how buses line up (currently working for CT Transit and some other transit districts.  Coming soon for WRTD!)

WRTD spreading the word at community events

On June 1st, WRTD hosted a table at the Windham Public Schools Family and Community Expo at Jillson Square in Willimantic.  It was a great day and we enjoyed meeting everyone.

On July 4th, WRTD will be joining the Boombox Parade in Willimantic to celebrate Independence Day.  We hope to see you there!

We also plan to be at other events this summer including ECSU and UConn orientation events in July and August, as well as Celebrate Mansfield in September.

Let us know if there are any events in your community where we should be!
